San Francisco Asis, Saint Francis Asisi
Mexican, 19th century.
Carved, gessoed and painted wood. Cloth covering.
Size is 48 inches tall.
Condition is excellent.
This San Francisco has a wood upper body while the lower portion is hollow and has wood sticks covered by cloth made rigid with glue. Possibly this was done to make him lighter for carring in a procession.
The thanging medallion goes with this piece, but is not original. The stolas are not available - -Veronika placed them there for decoration.
This is an excellent and striking piece.
