Santa Maria, Holy Mary
German, 19th century.
22 inches tall with base.
The figure is carved wood, then gessoed, then painted.
Condition is excellent, except the the Child has a missing hand.
This figure came from southern Germany, specifically Bavaria, and shows a Bohemian influence to the carving because of the type of crowns that Mary and Jesus wear.
The "logo" on the base portion spells out "MARIA" when looked at carefully as the first M and A are large. It took me a moment figure this out as I was concentrating only on "RIA".
A lovely figure.
